Turf Characteristics

  • Suitable Use

Eureka Kikuyu grass is suitable for:
    • Home Lawns
    • Large open spaces
    • Schools
    • Sports Fields
    • Commercial Landscapes

  • Care Instructions

For a newly installed Eureka Kikuyu Turf lawn, keep the turf consistently moist for the first 2–4 weeks by watering daily (and more frequently during hot or windy weather) until the roots establish and the turf cannot be easily lifted. Avoid heavy foot traffic during this period. Once established, gradually reduce watering frequency and switch to deeper, less frequent watering. Wait until the grass reaches about 5–7 cm before the first mow. Never mow more than one third of the leaf.

Avoid fertilising immediately after installation unless recommended by your supplier. A quality lawn fertiliser can usually be applied after establishment.

  • Idea Fertiliser

Apply Lawn solutions Premium Lawn Fertiliser once your turf is established. It is specifically formulated for lawns and provides balanced nutrition with both quick- and slow-release nutrients for healthy growth and colour. Remember to follow the manufactures instructions and water you lawn after your fertilize unless stated.

Spring (September–November): The best time to fertilise. This encourages strong growth as the weather warms up.

Summer (December–February): Apply another feed if your lawn is actively growing. Water well after fertilising.

Autumn (March–May): Fertilise to help your lawn recover from summer and prepare for cooler weather.

Winter (June–August): Most warm-season lawns need little or no fertiliser. Cool-season lawns may benefit from a light application if they are still actively growing.

Frequently Asked Question

How much maintenance does Eureka Kikuyu require?

Eureka Kikuyu requires medium maintenance. With regular mowing and proper care, it will maintain a tight growth mat and vibrant colour. To keep it looking its best, it’s important to water it adequately during dry spells and fertilise it periodically. However, its resilience means it can thrive with minimal effort, making it a practical choice for busy homeowners.

Can Eureka Kikuyu thrive in shaded areas?

While it thrives best in full sun, Eureka Kikuyu can tolerate up to 30% shade. This makes it suitable for areas that receive some shade during the day, such as beneath trees or beside buildings. It’s important to ensure that shaded areas still receive enough light for the grass to maintain its health and vibrancy.

How does Eureka Kikuyu handle drought conditions?

Eureka Kikuyu is well-suited to handle drought conditions. Its deep root system allows it to access water from deeper soil layers, helping it stay green and healthy during dry periods. While it’s important to provide supplementary watering during extended droughts, Eureka Kikuyu’s drought tolerance ensures it remains a tough and reliable grass choice.

Can Eureka Kikuyu be used for erosion control?

Yes, Eureka Kikuyu is an excellent choice for erosion control. Its strong, fast growing root system helps stabilise soil on slopes and other areas susceptible to erosion. By establishing a dense cover, it effectively reduces soil loss and helps maintain landscape integrity.
